After payment of 1% to all owners of horses finishing sixth through last, 62% of the remaining purse shall be paid to the owner of the winner, 20% to second, 10% to third, 5% to fourth and 3% to fifth. Race Summary
THORN SONG, taken in hand soon after the start while following front-running RA DER DEAN four wide, was confidently and alertly angled seven abreast on the backstretch to locate the better going, was content to follow COSMONAUT when that one took over, edged in entering the far turn to again be four wide, inched to challenge leaving the furlong grounds and prevailed under hand encouragement. COSMONAUT, reserved three wide early and never far back, moved to the fore from between foes four wide on the backstretch, went along under careful handling while accomplishing moderate fractions, was engaged by the winner leaving the furlong grounds and wasn't good enough. GUN SALUTE, bobbled lightly at the break, was never far back and four wide, was asked for more at the five-sixteenths pole, maneuvered outside the top two for the final furlong but couldn't muster the needed response. BARASTRAIGHT (GB), unhurried early and maneuvered out to race six or seven wide from the backstretch on, made a mild run into the upper stretch but couldn't sustain the needed momentum. SKIPPED BAIL, within easy striking distance and five wide throughout, was empty when the test came. YATE'S BLACK CAT, slightly edgy in the gate prior to the start, settled two or three wide, fanned eight wide into the upper stretch to make a mild run and failed to continue. BIG PRAIRIE, reserved soon after the start and positioned three wide, circled horses ten wide into the stretch and never fired. BREGO tired on the far turn. RA DER DEAN bobbled slightly at the start, sprinted clear two or three wide, lost the advantage to COSMONAUT before going a half, continued in contention for six furlongs and couldn't keep pace. ASCERTAIN (IRE) raced three wide and faltered approaching the stretch.
